Press Conference, Susan Combs, Dec 19, 2002 - The press conference was called by Susan Combs to announce the bill (SB155) to ban vehicles in Texas rivers. Present were Sens. Judith Zaffirini, D-Laredo, Frank Madla, D-San Antonio, Jeff Wentworth, R-San Antonio; and Reps. Elizabeth Ames Jones, R-San Antonio, and Robert Puente, D-San Antonio. Also present in support of the bill were Texas Parks & Wildlife Commission Chair Katharine Armstrong, Texas Farm Bureau, Texas Cattle Raisers, Lone Star Chapter of the Sierra Club, National Wildlife Federation, Texas Rivers Protection Assoc., Texas Riverside and Landowners Assoc., Texas Wildlife Association, and the Stewards of the Nueces. The legislators all spoke in support of this bill and Judith Zaffirini filed it. She, along with Madla and Wentworth will carry it in the Senate and Puente and Jones will carry it in the House.
