Write Letters

"What can I do?" is usually the next question. Well, several things:

• First - Contact your legislators - Both your Senator and House Representative. If you don't know, look them up using the state's find your incumbent page.
• Second - Sign our Petition
• Third - Contact Stakeholders:
  • House Committee on Cultural Resources and State Recreation
  • Senate Natural Resources Committee
  • Bill Authors
  • Supporters

When writing your letters, emphasize:

• You support HB305 and SB155
• This is about river destruction
• This affects all rivers, not just a few
• No motorized vehicular legislation currently exists
• A small number of users are having drastic effects on the ability to use by large numbers of texans
• Eco-Tourism is a booming industry resulting in millions of dollars of revenue across the state - rivers are a very popular destination (can we get Sage Kaweski's info here?)
• Emphasize personal encounters with motor vehicles in the river
• Their destruction of the resource (water, plants and wildlife)
• Incompatibility with fishing and swimming and other traditional usage.

Hopefully, we've made this easier by providing merge information for Microsoft Word. If someone will set this up for WordPerfect or other toolsets, please send them to us and we'll post them.
